Not A Fan – Episode 2: “Anyone”
Have you ever had to qualify for something?
A team… a position… a role where you had to prove yourself?
Most of life works that way. You earn your spot. You prove your worth. You show you’re good enough.
So when Jesus says in Gospel of Luke 9:23, “If anyone would come after me…”—it’s easy to assume there must be a catch.
But there isn’t.
When Jesus says “anyone,” He actually means anyone.
Just look at Matthew in Gospel of Matthew 9:9. A tax collector. An outsider. Someone people avoided. And Jesus walks up to him and simply says, “Follow me.”
No test. No qualifications. No clean-up required first.
And Matthew got up… and followed.
That’s the invitation Jesus still gives today.
But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:
The invitation is open to anyone…
but it will cost everything.
Jesus didn’t say, “Follow me when it’s convenient.”
He said, “Deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”
No qualifications.
No excuses.
BUT… total surrender.
So the question isn’t whether you’re invited…
The question is—are you willing to follow?
