not a fan. – Episode 3 – Choosing Intimacy
In Luke 7, two people encountered Jesus in the same room but approached Him in completely different ways.
Simon the Pharisee invited Jesus into his house, but he kept Him at a distance. He gave Jesus no kiss, no water for His feet, and no oil for His head. He had Jesus at his table, but he did not truly honor Him.
Then a sinful woman entered the room. She came broken, weeping, and vulnerable. Her tears fell on Jesus’ feet. She dried them with her hair, kissed them, and poured expensive perfume on them.
Simon knew religious information.
But this woman showed intimate surrender.
That is the difference between knowing about Jesus and truly knowing Him.
It is possible to be near spiritual things and still keep Jesus at a safe distance. We can attend church, hear sermons, study Scripture, and know the right answers, yet still refuse to open our hearts fully to Him.
But Jesus is not simply inviting us to learn facts about Him. He is inviting us into a relationship where we know Him and allow ourselves to be fully known by Him.
Psalm 139 reminds us that God already knows us completely. He knows when we sit and when we rise. He knows our thoughts. He knows our words before we speak them. He knows the hidden places of our hearts.
That can feel uncomfortable, but it is also deeply comforting. We do not have to pretend with a God who already sees us. We do not have to perform for a God who already knows us. We do not have to hide from a Savior who invites sinners to come close.
The sinful woman brought her shame, her tears, her reputation, and her brokenness to the feet of Jesus.
And Jesus did not reject her.
He forgave her.
He honored her faith.
He sent her away in peace.
The safest place for a sinner is at the feet of Jesus.
So the question is not simply, “Do I know about Jesus?”
The question is, “Am I willing to let Jesus truly know me?”
Fans may settle for knowledge.
Followers embrace intimacy.
Come honestly. Come humbly. Come fully. Jesus is not looking for polished religion. He is inviting you into deeper relationship with Him.
