Are You a Fan… or a Follower?
Jesus asked a question that’s easy to answer too quickly: Are you really following Him?
In Luke 9:23, Jesus says:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
That’s not casual.
A fan enjoys Jesus—what He does, what He offers, how He helps. But a follower surrenders to Him—who He is, what He says, and where He leads.
In John 6, crowds followed Jesus when He was performing miracles and meeting their needs—but when His teaching became hard, many walked away.
They came for what He could do… but left when they realized what it would cost.
And that tension still exists today.
It’s possible to:
– Go to church
– Believe the right things
– Even admire Jesus
…and still not truly follow Him.
Following Jesus means:
– Denying yourself (no longer living for you)
– Taking up your cross (dying to your old life)
– Fully surrendering (not partial, not selective)
It’s a defining moment—like in any relationship—where you have to decide:
Is this casual… or am I all in?
So here’s the question:
Are you a fan of Jesus… or a follower of Him?
Because Jesus didn’t call us to admire Him—
He called us to follow Him.
