Identity Crisis Part 2

One of the most freeing things a believer can ever say is this:

“I am not God.”

That may sound simple, but it reaches right into some of the deepest struggles we carry.

We worry because we are trying to control outcomes.

We grow frustrated when people do not do what we think they should.

We become hurt when we are not recognized, thanked, or appreciated.

But Scripture reminds us that certain rights belong to God alone.

Because He created all things, He alone has:

• The power to control

• The right to judge

• The worthiness to receive all praise

Daniel 4:35 reminds us that God does according to His will, and no one can stop His hand. James 4:12 says there is only one Lawgiver and Judge. Revelation 4:11 declares that God is worthy to receive glory, honor, and power because He created all things.

Yet the oldest sin was the desire to be “like God.”

Satan said, “I will be like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:12-14). Then, in the garden, he tempted Adam and Eve with the same lie: “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:4-5).

That temptation still speaks to us today.

We try to control what only God can control.

We judge people as though we sit on God’s throne.

We seek approval and praise as though people’s acceptance can satisfy our souls.

But Jesus shows us a better way.

Though He truly was God, Jesus did not cling to His rights. He humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient to the Father—even to death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8).

Jesus trusted the Father’s control.

He did not condemn, but came to save.

He did not seek the praise of man, but lived to please the Father.

So today, maybe the prayer we need is not, “God, help me get everything under control.”

Maybe it is:

“God, I surrender control.”

“God, I surrender judgment.”

“God, I surrender my need for praise.”

“God, I am not You. You alone are God.”

And that is not a statement of defeat.

It is a statement of freedom.

Because I am not God, I can rest.

Because I am not God, I can forgive.

Because I am not God, I can stop carrying what only God can carry.

He is God. I am not. And that is very good news.
