IDENTITY CRISIS
We live in a world obsessed with identity, but many believers struggle with the same question.
Too often we find our identity in things that can be taken away:
• Our job
• Our marriage
• Our children
• Our talents
• Our accomplishments
• Even our failures
The problem is that when those things change, we begin to lose our sense of who we are.
Scripture teaches that every person begins “in Adam”—marked by sin and moving toward death. But through faith in Jesus Christ, God does something incredible:
“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.” (Colossians 1:13)
We are not simply improved versions of our old selves. We are transferred into a new kingdom and given a new identity.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
That means if you are in Christ:
• You are a child of God.
• You are forgiven.
• You are accepted.
• You are a new creation.
• You are an heir of God.
• Your citizenship is in heaven.
• Your future is eternal life.
Many Christians live with an identity crisis because they try to hold on to both the old life and the new. But God never called us to have dual citizenship. We may live in this world, but we do not belong to it. Our ultimate identity is found in Christ alone.
When your circumstances change, remember this truth:
You may lose a position.
You may lose possessions.
You may lose health.
You may lose relationships.
But if you are in Christ, you will never lose who you are.
The strongest identity in the world is not found in what you do, what you’ve accomplished, or what you’ve lost. It is found in this simple truth:
I am in Christ.
