Not a Fan — Week 6 – Is Jesus Enough?
This is the final message in our “Not A Fan” series. Several weeks ago, we looked at the feeding of the 5,000. A young boy gave Jesus five loaves and two fish, and Jesus multiplied what seemed small into more than enough.
The challenge was simple: give God your loaves and fish.
But John 6:22-69 presses the question deeper.
What happens when we give God our loaves and fish, but He does not multiply them the way we wanted?
This is not about questioning God’s ability. Ephesians 3:20 says God is able to do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.” Most of us believe God can heal, provide, restore, and make a way.
The question is not, Can God do it?
The question is, Is Jesus enough if He does not do what I wanted?
In John 6, the crowd followed Jesus after He fed them. But Jesus said, “You are looking for Me… because you ate the loaves and had your fill” (John 6:26).
They wanted more bread.
Jesus offered Himself.
He said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35).
When Jesus stopped giving them what they expected, many walked away (John 6:66). But when Jesus asked the Twelve if they would leave too, Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).
That is the heart of a follower.
A fan wants Jesus for what He gives.
A follower wants Jesus for who He is.
Job had this same heart. After losing almost everything, he said, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21).
Job lost the gifts, but he did not lose the Giver.
So here is the question as we close this series:
If God multiplies the loaves and fish, will we praise Him?
And if He does not multiply them the way we hoped, will we still praise Him?
Because Jesus is not just the One who gives bread.
Jesus is the Bread.
And Jesus Himself is all we will ever need.
Jesus is enough!
